Wellness and Mental Health Services
Saugus Union School District (SUSD) is deeply committed to supporting the emotional, social, and academic growth of every student through its comprehensive wellness and mental health initiatives. Designed to be approachable and family-friendly, these services ensure that children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn in a nurturing environment.
Our Support System: Multi-Tiered Framework
To ensure every child gets the right level of care at the right time, SUSD aligns its wellness initiatives with a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This means help is organized into three flexible layers:
- Tier 1 (Universal Support): District-wide school climate initiatives, character-building programs, and social-emotional learning integrated into standard classrooms to support the well-being of all students.
- Tier 2 (Targeted Support): Small group counseling, mentorship, or specialized workshops for children who need a little extra encouragement navigating social dynamics, managing stress, or building resilience.
- Tier 3 (Intensive Support): One-on-one customized intervention plans, direct mental health counseling, and crisis management tailored to support students experiencing more complex emotional challenges.
Dedicated Wellness Professionals
Direct student care is delivered by a specialized team of school wellness and mental health specialists. These professionals work collaboratively on individual school campuses to provide an accessible safety net for students. To guarantee the highest standard of ethical and professional care, all specialists are fully licensed or formally registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). This background brings advanced clinical training in child development, family systems, and evidence-based mental health practices straight into our school communities.
Families looking to explore these supportive resources or connect with a specialist at their specific school campus can reach out directly to your school site office.
