Independent Study

Independent study, whether temporary or long-term, may be just the thing your child needs to be able to progress academically and personally. We’re here to help.

Independent Home Study

Independent study is a voluntary option for your student if they plan on being absent. There are two types of independent study options; short-term and long-term. For both types of independent study options, there must be a signed contract on file. You may request Independent study contracts from your child’s school site office manager.

Short-term independent study is valid for reasons such as vacations, family business, illness, etc. and you may request it for up to 15 days. Saugus Union School District offers a long-term independent study option known as our Saugus Digital Learning Academy (SDLA), which is a year-long academy that serves fourth through sixth grade students. Our Saugus Digital Learning Academy (SDLA) provides a comprehensive academic program using the same District curriculum as what is offered in person.

To find out more about either of these programs, please inquire at your local school office.
