Presidents Day – February 16, 2026 – Schools Closed

In honor of Presidents Day and George Washington’s birthday, all district offices and schools will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026.

President George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, into a Virginia planting family. As a delegate of the second Continental Congress that assembled in May 1775, he was elected Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. On July 3, 1775, at Cambridge, Massachusetts, he took command of his ill-trained troops and embarked upon a war that was to last six grueling years. As a member of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787, Washington led the ratification of the Constitution of the United States and was unanimously elected by the electoral college to serve as the first president of the United States of America. Upon the conclusion of his second term as president, he retired to his beloved Mount Vernon to live out the rest of his life. After his death, it was said that President George Washington was, “first in war–first in peace–and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”

Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
