Recognizing Veterans Day – November 11 – Schools Closed

On November 11, 2024, all Saugus Union School District sites will be closed in honor of Veterans Day. Veterans Day is a national holiday recognizing all who have served in the Armed Forces. It was first observed on November 11, 1919, as Armistice Day in honor of the first anniversary of the end of World War I, which officially ended on the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” in 1918. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday to Veterans Day. Some ways you can acknowledge the holiday is by flying the American flag outside your home, visiting or volunteering at a veteran facility, attending a local event, and, of course, thanking veterans and their families for their service.
We sincerely thank all of our service members and their families for their service and hope everyone enjoys a restful day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 12.
