Welcome to the Saugus Union School District Child Development Programs (CDP). Our goal is to serve parents who need before- and after-school child care for their elementary school students and/or preschool for their three- and four-year-old children. We are dedicated to providing an enriching, safe, and nurturing environment and to helping all children feel successful.

Our Mission

The SUSD Child Development Programs CARE for children and families through innovative programs that extend transitional kindergarten through sixth-grade learning and incorporate fun and PRIDE—Passion, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence.

Before- & After-School Program

We offer, at the child's school of attendance, our before- and after-school program to any child who attends a transitional kindergarten or kindergarten through sixth-grade class in any elementary school of the Saugus Union School District. We bridge home and school and extend children’s learning through a variety of high quality activities and experiences. The before- and after-school daily program consists of organized activities that include enrichment activities, engaging and creative indoor activities, outdoor physical fitness activities, dedicated homework time, and a nutritious snack.

SUSD before- and after-school program is a 10-month tuition-based program. The before and after-school program located on the Cedarcreek Elementary School campus offers Cedarcreek students a reduced tuition rate because of grant funding through the California Department of Education's After-School Education and Safety Grant (ASES). Cedarcreek families enrolled in the ASES Program pay a monthly investment fee and must adhere to all grant requirements.

Preschool Program

Our Fun For Threes and Fours Preschool Program provides a developmentally-based pre-academic curriculum that promotes the child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in preparation for kindergarten.

Our qualified, professional early childhood education preschool instructors provide a nurturing and safe environment for every child in their care. At each site and in every class, we maintain a low adult-to-child ratio (1:8–1:12).

Our preschool programs are designed to provide developmentally appropriate experiences through a comprehensive pre-kindergarten curriculum. They include the following:

  • Half-Day Preschool Program
  • Full-Day Preschool Programs (at Emblem and Rosedell)
  • State Preschool (CSPP)
  • OWL (Opening the World of Learning) - OWL prepares children for kindergarten through playful, purposeful, and personalized instruction.

The preschool program (CSPP/state preschool) located on the Cedarcreek, Rio Vista, and Santa Clarita school campuses offers low-income families who reside within the SUSD attendance boundaries a tuition-free preschool program funded by the state. Families enrolled in this program must adhere to all eligibility requirements.

Summer Fun Program

Our Summer Fun Program is open to all incoming transitional kindergarten and kindergarten through incoming sixth-grade children at their school of residence and to three- and four-year-old full-day preschool children at Rosedell Elementary School. The Summer Fun Program offers a variety of camp activities including crafts, games, science experiments, physical fitness, and other enrichment activities based around weekly themes. For an additional cost, students even have the opportunity to attend fun and educational field trips.

The SUSD Summer Fun Program is tuition based, and registration is separate from the 10-month before- and after-school program and preschool program. Please register your child online. For more information, please contact your school office.

Before- & After-School and Preschool Program Age Requirements

Children must be four years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year, toilet trained, and live within the SUSD boundary. If space permits, children who reach three years of age by September 1 of the current school year (and who are also toilet trained) may also enroll. We use a lottery system to determine enrollment at each site due to space limitations.  Please contact the Child Development Program site supervisor at your home school for detailed registration information.
