United States Constitution and Citizenship Day is recognized every September 17 in commemoration of the signing by 39 delegates of the document that is a standard for the democracy of the United States of America.
“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America” are the words that begin our constitution but also summarize the beliefs of Americans either by birth or naturalization. United States Constitution and Citizenship Day recognizes all who are born in the United States and who, by naturalization, have become citizens.
