Administration - Board of Trustees

Mrs. Umeck was first appointed to the Board of Trustees in October 1996, completing the term of a board member who vacated office. She is now serving in her third elected term. Offices on the Board have included: Clerk in 1999, President in 2000, Clerk in 2002, President in 2003, President in 2008, and President in 2009. Mrs. Umeck is also past chair of the Santa Clarita Valley School Trustees Association and is currently serving as its legislative chair. She has the distinction of completing the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance Program. Mrs. Umeck is the Admissions Director at Providence High School in Burbank. Her three children are Saugus District alumni.

Mr. De La Cerda was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2005 and will begin serving in his second term December 2009. He is a graduate of the Hart School district and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Oklahoma State University (where he was an All-American and NCAA Champion athlete). He also possesses a Minority Business Executive Management Degree from University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business Administration and the National Hispanic Leadership Institute. Mr. De La Cerda currently serves as the Director of Operations & Marketing for the local newspaper, The Signal, which serves a population of almost 300,000. Mr. De La Cerda has served on numerous local boards and committees for many non-profit organizations including Michael Hoefflin Foundation, SCV Jaycees, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, SCV Chamber of Commerce, Valley Industrial Association, and City of Santa Clarita. He is a SCV Business Journal 40-under-40 award winner and was selected as one of the 51 most influential people in Santa Clarita Valley. He has twin daughters attending Tesoro del Valle Elementary where he is a member of the PTA. He has been a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley for over 25 years.

Mr. Bryce is serving in his second term on the Saugus School Board. His first term was from 1993 to 1997. He has held the offices of Clerk in 1996 and Board President in 1997. Mr. Bryce is a Quality Assurance Engineer with Crane Aerospace in Burbank, a supplier of systems and equipment to the aerospace industry. He has two children, who are both Saugus District alumni and has lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for over 23 years.

Mrs. Diaz is serving in her third term to ensure Excellence in Education for all students and staff. She has served as Board President in 2002 and 2007 as well as Board Clerk in 2001, 2005, and 2006. She completed the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance Program and graduated from Pepperdine University. Mrs. Diaz has two children that are both successful alumni of the Saugus Union School District, where she served as PTA President for three years and currently has two grandchildren that will also be attending Saugus schools in the future. Mrs. Diaz is a Manager for Internet Banking provider Digital Insight, an Intuit Company, in Westlake, California.

Mrs. Koscielny is in her fourth term and has served in the following capacities: Clerk in 1997, President in 1998, President in 2001, Clerk and President in 2005, and President in 2006. She has completed both the California School Boards Association Master of Boardsmanship Program and the Masters in Governance Program. Mrs. Koscielny is a distinguished member of the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Delegate Assembly and serves as Government Relations Chair to Assemblyman Cameron Smyth. She is a Registered Nurse, and her four children are all Saugus District alumni.
