Safety and Risk Management

SUSD Safety and Risk Management Overview

The Safety and Risk Management Department is fully committed to providing a safe and healthful environment for all students and employees of the Saugus Union School District.  Safety is a core value of our organization and we foster a collaborative effort between administrators, teachers, students, parents and other members of our community.

Our mission is to provide a safe, secure & healthful learning environment for students to develop socially, emotionally & academically and to their fullest potential.  We believe that using a proactive approach to managing safety has been instrumental in our success.  We will continue to develop and implement proactive measures to improve the risk management process.

From a student safety standpoint, additional information on our safety program can be found in the Parent/Student handbook. We strongly encourage Parents to review the material annually.  The safety and well-being of our employees, students and parent volunteers is of the utmost importance. Everyone taking an active role in the process will assure our continued success.

SafeSchools Safety Training Kudos

SafeSchools is our on-line safety training program which was implemented several years ago to increase awareness, target injury trends and help us comply with Cal-OSHA requirements.  SUSD SafeSchools program was recognized by Keenan & Associates in this article dated February, 2011:

We encourage employees to check the SafeSchools website regularly for assignments and other information pertaining to employee safety. We believe that each and every employee is responsible for safety and must integrate it in everything we do.

News, Announcements and Reminders

Cold and flu season is upon us.  We ask that parents keep children home when they are sick to prevent others from being exposed to illness.  Children with fevers will be sent home and asked not to return to school until they are "fever free" for more than 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.  Every school site encourages and reinforces frequent hand-washing with students as a preventative measure.  Please contact office personnel or your site school Nurse with any questions or concerns regarding our illness policy.
