Character Education
The Saugus Union School District implements the Caring School Community program at all fifteen school sites. This is a nationally recognized, research based program that builds classroom and school-wide community.
In conjunction with the Caring School Community Program, the district implements the Character Counts! Six Pillars of Character to assist with the development of ethical students. The six pillars of character are: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
The District coordinates with the City of Santa Clarita and law enforcement to provide drug/alcohol prevention education.
The District mandates schools to be free of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use among students and staff by promoting a “no use” philosophy consistent with California law. No tobacco use or disposal of tobacco products is permitted within 25 feet of buildings, on playgrounds, or parking lots at any time.
The district desires to prevent bullying by establishing a positive, collaborative school climate
and clear rules for student conduct. Student behavior expectations are clearly outlined in Board Policy 5131(a) – (d).
